Afenifere asks Akeredolu to hold dialogue on clashes

The Pan Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, yesterday urged Ondo governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, to convoke a colloquium where stakeholders could dialogue on the recurrent herdsmen’s attacks in the state.

The chapter chairman of the group, Basorun Seinde Arogbofa, in a communiqué at the end of a meeting in Akure, implored the governor to emulate his Ekiti counterpart, Ayo Fayose, by bringing together relevant groups.

He said critical stakeholders like security personnel, traditional rulers, leader of Fulani groups and others were key to proffering solution to the menace.

His words: “While we agree with our governor that ranches and not colonies are the ultimate solution for cattle trade, he must quickly put in place some measures to arrest the wave of kidnapping and armed robbery mainly perpetrated by these herders especially in the northern senatorial district.

“As done by the Ekiti State governor some two weeks ago, we strongly suggest he brings together all the relevant groups – the security personnel, monarchs, senior citizens, Fulani leaders and other stakeholders – to find a way out.”

Arogbofa, however, lauded Akeredolu for his achievements in his first anniversary in office.

He urged the state government to revive moribund and abandoned industries established by the late Chief Michael Ajasin in order to create more employment opportunities for the teeming youths as well improve the economy of the state.

For a smooth and successful elections in 2019, the Afenifere chieftain advised the government and community leaders to embark on aggressive voters’ registration and education.

He added that the people should register so that they could exercise their civic rights of electing the leaders of their choice.
