African Sign

The much anticipated first international African Outdoor Advertising Sign Expo Lagos which is scheduled for June 25 – 27, 2014 recently received a major boost with the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) the apex regulatory body for advertising practice in Nigeria giving its nod for the exhibition.

The support came through Bello Kankarofi, registrar/chief executive, APCON when team from the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), led by its Managing Director, George Noah visited the APCON boss.

Speaking during the courtesy call in Lagos recently, Noah revealed that the visit to APCON is part of its wider consultation and awareness effort to get the buy-in of all major stakeholders within the advertising industry on the forthcoming exhibition tagged; African Sign Expo, 2014, adding that the visit is also in recognition of the pivotal role of the council as a major institution in advertising as a whole.

According to Noah, the visit was aimed at to keeping APCON abreast of its initiatives and activities, which, it says are geared towards promoting the advertising industry.

Kankarofi in his response commended the LASAA team for visiting the council to brief it on its many lofty initiatives stressing that APCON is ever willing to support LASAA on the the forthcoming outdoor advertising conference

His words; “It is important we meet frequently, considering our past close relationship, as  your visit has also cleared the air on initiatives, particularly the recent misconstrued formation of a fellow state outdoor advertising regulatory association, ORAAN.

“From your explanations, we now understand that the spirit behind your various initiatives is to promote cleaner environment and by extension, to other states, as well as lift the practice of advertising profession,” he added.
