AGI hails new commission to check inferior goods

The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has welcomed plans by government to establish a Commission to check dumping of inferior goods into the country.

President John Mahama in his State of the Nation address said government would soon establish an International Trade Commission to protect local industries in other to boost the country’s competiveness.

President of the Association, James Asare-Adjei told Joy News the move is in the right direction to save the industries in the country.

According to him, “30 years ago, China closed their economy to the outside world, they came out became so resilient and strong and they [are] now leading the world’s manufacturing.”

The country has to make sure that “we don’t really offend, we don’t go against the WTO rules and regulations but then we will be able to protect our fragile business which needs to be nurtured [and] grown until such a time that they can compete favourably,” on a global level, the AGI President added.
