Weco donates computers to help secondary schools

Weco Systems International has got donated computers to chosen schools in Lagos as well as Anambra states.

In making the donation, it urged teachers of the beneficiary schools to use the equipment to impart to their pupils necessary Information and Communication Technology skills.

Weco’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Obinna Ekwonwa, said the systems were already preloaded with necessary application, and came with Uninterrupted Power Supply.

“The students should equally embrace the learning opportunity to prepare them to compete among their peers globally,” Ekwonwa said.

The donation, according to him, was made in memory of the company’s late founding Chief Executive Officer, Uchenna Obidike, and part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The Weco CEO said the company was poised to carry on with the legacy Obidike left behind, “to ensure that those things he was passionate about come to pass.”

He said, “One of his passion while he was alive was to see Nigeria become an ICT-driven economy that can compete globally and also believing that homegrown Nigerian ICT companies like Weco Systems can compete globally with great impacts.”

Ekwonwa further reiterated that the founding CEO loved to encourage and empower young people, especially the less privileged, by investing in their lives to make a difference.

“In line with these dreams, Weco systems group decided in loving memory of the late Uchenna Obidike, and as part of our corporate social responsibility, to donate computer systems fully equipped with UPS to selected schools this year,” he said.

The beneficiary schools for the year cut across schools in Lagos State where Weco is headquartered and Anambra State, the late Obidike’s home state .

The beneficiaries in Lagos are Community Junior Secondary School, Olomu Ajah; and Lagos State Junior Model College, Badore.

While the beneficiary schools in Anambra are Girls High School, Umueri; Father Joseph’s Secondary School, Aguleri; Madonna Secondary School, Nneyi, and Sacred Heart Secondary School, Nteje.

The Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Willie Obiano, commended Weco for complementing the state government’s effort in ICT education.

Represented by the state’s Director for Education, Dr. Laz Okafor, he said, “This gesture by Weco Systems International will help our young people to be groomed to compete globally and also move our nation forward in terms of capacity building, knowing that the world is becoming a global village”
