A photo journalist helping to cover up the Ebola outbreak within Liberia working for NBC News has examined positive for the virus.
Ashoka Mukpo, 33, has been working in Liberia for three years and has been covering the Ebola outbreak for some time.
He began feeling tired and achy Wednesday and discovered he had a slight fever. He went to the Medecins Sans Frontieres treatment center Thursday to be tested.
Twelve hours later, he received a positive Ebola diagnosis. NBC News says he’s now headed back to the United States for treatment.
“Having lived there for the last several years, Ashoka was well aware of the risks but felt strongly about trying to help provide honest perspective from the ground level,” his father, Mitchell Levy, in a statement. “Ashoka is being evacuated to the USA where he will receive the best possible treatment. The doctors are optimistic about his prognosis.”
