The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 30 suspects in connection with the ongoing cult clash that have claimed the lives of three persons in the Gboko Local Government Area of the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the clash involving rival cult groups was causing unrest that had been threatening the lives and property of residents in the local government.
In a bid to restore normalcy in the community, the Chairman of the LGA, Issac Mton, partnered security agencies including policemen attached to the police command in the state.
A source said no one could ascertain the cause of the clash between the rival cult groups, adding that the information in circulation was that the warring cultists were on a revenge mission over the death of a member.
“In the process, there has been unrest from Saturday and Sunday, leading to death of another two persons as several other persons were injured,” the source said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the ongoing cult-related clash in Gboko community, said 30 suspects had been arrested.
“I cannot confirm if there is casualty or not but the information I gathered now is that 30 suspects were arrested in connection with the crisis in Gboko and the suspects are on their way to Makurdi,” Anene said.
