Chevron, Evidence of Safety Investment In Delta, Tells Uduaghan

The profitable relationship between Delta State Government as well as American oil giant, Chevron, carries elegant testimony to the truth Delta State was peaceful as well as stayed the destination of investors throughout Nigeria.

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State who stated this, described the company’s working relationship with Delta State Government vis-a-vis its host communities as “exemplary”.

Uduaghan made these comments while playing host to outgoing Chairman/Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr Andrew Fawthrop, who paid him a courtesy call at the Government House Annexe Warri.

The Governor commended Chevron’s example to other oil multi-nationals and corporate organisations operating in the country, saying that the company had a good working relationship with government and its host communities, which had boosted the status of the state as a preferred international investment destination.

“The multi-billion dollar Escravos Gas-to-Liquids (EGTL) project undertaken by Chevron, even at the height of the Niger-Delta crisis, underlines the investment friendliness of Delta State, attributing the success of the enormous project chiefly because of good understanding between the company and government as well as between Chevron and its host communities.

“I have always recommended the good working relationship between Chevron and government and with its host communities as a yardstick for other companies to operate effortlessly,” the governor said, adding, “We achieved results with Escravos gas-to-liquids (EGTL) because of the approach of Chevron.”

He described Fawthrop as a good administrator who gave his best in service to the company and who will be missed by the host communities due to his personal enterprise and good human relations that endeared him to all.

Uduaghan noted that he did not hesitate during speeches at international fora to refer to the Chevron business module in the Niger-Delta and especially the company’s cordial relations with the government and the host communities.

The governor said, “For us, it is sad that you are leaving, but, you deserve the rest. On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta State, I say a big thank you for the relationship between Chevron and government and between Chevron and the host communities.”
Speaking earlier, Fawthrop commended Governor Uduaghan for opening doors of opportunity through his innovative leadership style, which he noted had remarkably created an enabling environment for diverse business activities to flourish in the state.

The outgoing Chevron boss said that he enjoyed personal relationship with the governor, who he commended for bringing innovation to the act of governance.

Fawthrop is a 1973 graduate of Geology and Chemistry from the University of London who later obtained a master’s degree in Marine Earth Science. He joined Chevron Corporation in 1977 as a Geophysicist.
He has put in over 36 years in Chevron’s Upstream and Commercial operations, and has held numerous technical and management positions of increasing responsibility around the world, is retiring as the Chairman/Managing Director of Chevron.
