Ethio Telecom Signs Contract with Ericsson to Boost Network in Ethiopia – Ethio Telecom on Tuesday, signed a contract with Ericsson targeting to improved quality of network coverage, richer and even more impressive mobile communication services to customers.
The agreement aims to help Ethio Telecom improve the capacity and performance of its 2G/3G network. It also allows Ethio Telecom to procure Ericsson products and services, transform the current network and add additional capacity to meet the country’s need to bring connectivity to over 60 million subscribers nationwide. Andualem Admassie, CEO of Ethio Telecom, said that Ethio Telecom considered this agreement as a meaningful move towards meeting the country’s need for communication under the Telecom Expansion Plan, emphasizing that Ethio Telecom stood firmly to uphold this long-term partnership with Ericsson.
Rafiah Ibrahim, Head of Region Middle East and North East Africa at Ericsson, noted the growing Ethiopia’s 3G market with an increasing demand on connectivity. She also underlined that Ericsson stood committed to support the development of Ethiopia’s telecom sector, saying Ericsson’s global expertise and technology leadership would contribute for the transformation the country’s telecom industry. She added that the signing of this framework agreement would consolidate Ericsson’s partnership with Ethio Telecom and would allow Ethio Telecom and Ericsson to work in concert with a view to offer “rewarding new user experience for Ethiopian consumers in the new connectivity era and we are fully confident that we will together achieve this objective.”
