Coconut Oil Is “Pure Poison”: Claims surrounding coconut oil might not be true as widely believed.
Contrary to health claims about the wonders of coconut oil, a Harvard university professor Karin Michels has said that the oil is infact “pure poison”.
This is because, Michels says, coconut oil increases “bad” cholesterol and the health claims are “absolute nonesense”. She made this statement in Germany University of Freiburg where she made a presentation on nutritional errors.
It should be recalled that the embracement of coconut oil came after a 2010 study in the American College of NutritionJournal found that it was useful in weight-loss programmes.
Since then, questions surrounding coconut oil has been raised in several circles.
Bad cholesterol clogs the arteries and causes stroke and heart attack. When compared to other oils and red meat, the number of saturated fat is higher in coconut oil such that it is almost appropriate to palm oil. However, we cannot entirely cancel out coconut oil because it also contains good cholesterol.
On how much is too much? Experts say use occasionally.
