To the joy and immense relief of many Nigerians, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, has called for the immediate disbandment of all offices of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
This was revealed by the senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on public affairs, Ajuri Ngelale, on Wednesday, February 26. Offices of SARS located in places like Ikorodu, Ijebu-Ode and in Obada Oko will now be taken over by police commissioners.
This came on the heels of the killing of a Nigerian footballer, Tiamiyu Kazeem, in Sagamu, Ogun state, by some SARS officers on Saturday, February 22.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that following the killing of Tiamiyu, IGP Adamu disbanded the 12 Zonal Intervention Squad (ZIS).
Tiamiyu was killed on Saturday, February 22, after being allegedly pushed out of a moving police vehicle by the operatives who had arrested him and were taking him to Abeokuta, the state capital.
The ZIS operatives, a special unit under the assistant inspector-general of police Zone II, had been operating around border communities of Lagos and Ogun states.
