LASU produces new school calendar

The Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has published a recently approved school calendar for the 2013/2014 session despite the continuing strike by the institution’s professors.

According to a statement signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Kayode Sutton, the new academic calendar is applicable to both fresh and returning students.

It said that the first semester of the session would run for 14 weeks, commencing from June 23, and  last till Sept. 22.

“Students are expected to resume from recess and commence online registration, and lectures, on June 23, 2014.

“Grading, uploading of results and department/faculty board consideration of results, and the uploading of corrections are expected to have been concluded by the 13th week, which is by  Sept.19.

“By Sept. 22, results will be presented for senate approval, and the semester winds up on the same day,” the statement said.

It also indicated that the second semester will begin immediately the first semester ends, on Sept. 23, 2014, and will last till Jan. 12, 2015.

According to the statement, students have started returning to campus for lectures in their various faculties, as directed by the management.

It said that a minimum of 70 per cent attendance for lectures would be required before a student would be eligible to sit for examinations.

The statement noted that the university’s senate had directed all departments/ faculties to resume normal academic activities and report to the vice- chancellor for documentation.

It said that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oladapo Obafunwa, accompanied by some principal officers, on June 26, embarked on a tour of the faculties to monitor compliance with the resumption directive.

NAN reports that members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, LASU Chapter had, on May 20 declared a total and indefinite strike.
