Multiple Auto Crash Disrupts Traffic On Eko Bridge In Lagos – A multiple automobile accident on the Eko Bridge in Lagos caused a gridlock on the ever-busy bridge on Wednesday.An official of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Awodehinde Lawal, said that the accident involved a LAGBUS bus and seven other vehicles.
Mr. Lawal said that the LAGBUS bus with registration number XX142-DJE (W041) was heading towards Costain on the Mainland at about 6:45 a.m. when it lost control, as a result of excessive speeding, and hit seven vehicles.
He explained that the driver of the bus, who was trying to avoid a taxi that was in his front, crossed the median and hit seven vehicles coming from Costain in the opposite direction.
“We have towed all the affected vehicles to the Iponri Divisional Police Station, for further investigation.
“Although the driver took to his heels after the accident, he was later arrested by the policemen and taken to the station,” he said.
Mr. Lawal said that the accident led to gridlock for several hours on the bridge, forcing motorists to use alternative routes.
Confirming the incident, Olubodun Ogunyakin, Head of Operations, LAGBUS Asset Management Ltd., Operators of LAGBUS intra-city buses in Lagos State, said that the company would investigate the cause of the accident.
“I am not aware that anybody died in the accident. We are still carrying out our investigations to know the cause of the accident,” Mr. Ogunyakin said.
