Over 2,000 participants are expected to attend this year’s Nigerian Diaspora Direct Investments Summit organised by Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (CANUK)

The 2014 summit which is slated for April in London has as its theme “Mining and the Diaspora: Nigeria’s unexploited wealth opportunities”

The summit will focus on mining opportunities in Nigeria and examine how Nigerians in the Diaspora can participate in mining and related services either through Small and Medium Enterprises or partnership with existing local firms.

Addressing journalists in Ibadan, the 0yo state capital,Chairman CANUK, Bimbo Folayan

said Nigerians in UK is shifting focus on mining in Nigeria saying “we feel that if we allow the Diaspora to stimulate the sector, wealth creation among citizens will grow and we shall be adding values. Including mining support services,we will still go to the Agric sector.

Impressed with the changes in Oyo State terms of infrastructural development,he said . these are part of what is needed to support efforts in transforming the country.

While commending Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi on infrastructural development, urban renewal and job creation efforts,Folayan said the first thing Nigerians in the Diaspora needed from the government is massive development of infrastructures that will serve as the foundation for investment opportunities which CANUK is mobilizing citizens living abroad for.

He said Ajimobi has changed the outlook of, particularly Ibadan, the state capital and has embarked on similar activities in other towns and villages in the state, pointing out that such efforts gladden the heart of Nigerians in the Diaspora who are looking for opportunities to come home and invest in the economy.

According to him, we are impressed with the changes in Oyo State and other states particularly in the area of infrastructural development. These are part of what we need to support our efforts to transform our country. We are determined to make the change possible because Nigeria is our country.

He also recalled that Oyo State attended last year summit in London with a large number of delegates led by the governor, stressing that it showed the seriousness of the the Ajimobi administration in opening up investment opportunities in the state for would-be investors.

According to him,we are determined to make the change possible because Nigeria is our country,I advise Nigerians to come out and vote, recognize that the only way to bring change is through elections. We should insist that elections are issue-based.

“Let Nigerians not collect money from them. When politicians give you money for bite, vote against him.

He however listed other states that participated and which have benefitted from the summit last year as Kaduna and Bayelsa.
