Residents of submerged Delta community sleep in ceiling
WARRI—RESIDENTS of riverine Ogodobiri community, Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State, overrun by the ravaging flood in parts of the state were said to be sleeping in the ceiling of their houses and cooking their meals in their canoe because their homeland is under water.
Leader of the community/Public Relations Officer, Comrade Felix Okpe, who broke the sad news to Vanguard, yesterday, said the community had sent a Save Our Soul to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs through the Coordinator in Delta State.
His words: “As I speak to you, the only means of movement in the community is by canoe and speed boat as majority of them slept in the ceiling of their houses and cook their meal in the canoe because there is no more land.
“The people of Ogodobri community are appealing to the Ministry Niger Delta Affairs, United Nations, Federal, State, Local Governments, and well-meaning individuals to come to their aid as the ravaging flood has taken over their only means of livelihood and their personal belongings.”
