Buhari’s Victory: There was panic in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos, on Wednesday, as some youths, who were celebrating President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election, attacked and wounded some policemen.
Hope For Nigeria gathered that the youth from the Alaba Rago area, blocked both lanes of the Mile 2-Badagry Expressway.
It was learnt that the celebration, which began around 7 am, resulted in motorists being denied the use of both lanes of the road.
A resident, who identified himself simply as Peter, said the blockage of the road prevented people, who were going to work on the Lagos Island, Apapa and other areas of the state, from moving freely, adding that a lot of them had to alight from vehicles and trekked several kilometres to get to their workplaces.
He added that the youth were also violent as they hurled sachet water, pebbles and sticks at people they suspected were not pleased with their actions.
According to him, not long after, police operatives arrived the scene to remove the tyres and other things they used in barricading the expressway so that commuters could pass.
He said the police action did not go down well with the youth, who launched attacks on the operatives and injured some of them in the process.
Peter stated, “Some exuberant Hausa youths, around 7am, blocked the Mile 2-Badagry Expressway while celebrating the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in Saturday’s presidential election.
“The celebration was not peaceful because apart from blocking the road, they were fully prepared for anyone who dared to query them. They did not mind the gridlock that their action caused. But when the police arrived to remove what they used to barricade the road, they attacked the policemen and wounded some of them.”
