6-Month Old Nigerian Baby Dies in Fire

6-Month Old Nigerian Baby Dies in Fire – An evening fire taken the life of a 6 months old baby at CA Street, House 52, Shagari Estate, Mosan Okunola, Ipaja area of Lagos.

The fire was said to have been caused by a candle that was fixed on a stool in the room by the child’s mother. Witnesses said the mother had laid the sleeping baby on bed and lit the candle before stepping outside for fresh air.

The candle light later latched on a plastic object and the fire spread to other parts of the room. The Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Mr Rasak Fadipe, who confirmed this yesterday said the baby was burnt to death at about 9.30pm on Saturday.

“The fire was caused by a candlestick lit by the mother of the child who claimed to be taking fresh air outside when the incident happened.”

Fadipe, while advising the public to be wary of candles, warned parents against locking up their kids.

Public Relations Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the Sought West Region, Ibrahim Farinloye said the child had been deposited at the general mortuary.

He advised parents to desist from the use of exposed light, particularly candle light when they are not inside to supervise their children.
