GFA declare new competition – Ghana have a new football event to keep teams busy while a lawsuit continues.
The nation’s football association announced the decision after its Executive Committee agreed to a report filed by a three-member panel to look into what can be done to set up an alternative competition.
This emergency move has been necessitated by the fact that the domestic league has been held up by a court wrangling between the association and King Faisal, who are contesting their relegation from last season.
The legal process has led to a hold up of the league since its slated September kickoff.
“The competition will become a regular fixture to the league calender and will not be affected by the commencement of the league,” FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi said.
Nyantakyi revealed that sponsorship is in the pipeline for what would become a third competition of the league season besides the FA Cup and Premier League.
