Honourable Mohammed Wakil, Minister of State for Power inaugurated a N401 million power transmission station in Calabar, Cross River State capital, just like he motivated youths within the country to take part forces together with the Federal Government to combat against vandalism of power installations by hoodlums within their places.
Wakil, who made the appeal while commissioning the 2x150MVA, 330/132/33KV transmission sub-station noted that it was disheartening that some youths connived with dubious businessmen to vandalise electrical installations of transmission companies, thereby sabotaging Federal Government’s effort at reforming the power sector.
The minister, however, urged youths in the country to form vigilante groups to protect electrical installations sited in their localities, adding that “government alone cannot win the fight against vandalisation.
Also speaking, Managing Director of MBH Power Limited, Mr B. Mukhi stated that the Adiabo-Calabar Power substation is the ninth sub-station to be handed over by their partners TCN apart from those delivered to the agencies in Yola, Karu, Kubwa, Okada, Birnin Kebbi, Gombe, Onitsha, and Benin.
He said that with the commissioning of the power sub-station, power supply to Calabar Municipality and its environs would improve, adding that the issue of low voltage due to long distance 132kv transmission line from Alaoji to Calabar has been addressed.
