Groups canvass speedy rescue of Chibok girls

The Coordinator of Civil Society Action Coalition for Education for All, Hajia Nimat Laibaika, and the National President of the Women in Management and Leadership Association, Dr. Ijeoma Felix, have said the continued captivity of over 200 girls of the Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State in Boko Haram’s dungeon is very tragic for the children and their parents.

They therefore called on the Federal Government and security agencies in the country to urgently ensure the safe rescue of the girls.

They spoke in telephone interviews with our correspondent in Ilorin on Friday.

Laibaika appealed to the government and security agencies to adopt strategies that would ensure that the girls were rescued safely and urgently.

“Government should make extra efforts to bring back the Chibok girls. It is taking too much time. They are almost spending two months now and the authorities are saying they know where they are. If they know where they are, they should another strategy.

“We do not want them to be harmed. The parents are going through difficult times and they are running out of patience. Some are in the hospitals while some are already dead,” Laibaika said.

Felix stated that while the efforts of the federal government by energising security for the girls’ rescue was commendable, more strategic and holistic measures should be invigorated to safely rescue the girls.

According to her, the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan had been gender- friendly, adding that more women had been given opportunities to contribute to nation building in the country.

She said she was confident that the government would take wise actions that will eventually lead to the rescue of the girls.
