Supporters Club raise N400m for 2014 World Cup

The president-general of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club, Rafiu Ladipo, has revealed that they have raised about 50% of their required budget for the 2014 World Cup.

The group had announced earlier that they needed about N800m, to take 800 of its members to the World Cup for the tournament and Ladipo has now disclosed they have realised over half of it.

“Right now, we can say that we have got about fifty percent of what we need,” he told KickOffNigeria. “But we still have a long way to go and the World Cup is very close.”

President Goodluck Jonathan, who has already doled out N50m to the group, has promised to organise a fundraiser, to help the group raise more money for their expenses.

Ladipo added: “The president told us he understood that the donation he made would not be enough for us, and promised to help us with a presidential dinner where others would come in and help with donations.

“That dinner will come up in Abuja soon, and I am confident we will meet our target by then.”
